Who will use the chargers?
Employee parking, customer parking, and fleet parking can have different charging needs. Ask how many drivers need charging now, how long their vehicles stay, and whether access will be shared.
For a leased workplace, involve the property owner early. Decide who authorizes the work and who will own the equipment.
Review the site before ordering equipment
Discuss electrical capacity, the route to parking, utility coordination, accessibility, permits, and future expansion with the design and installation team. A charger’s purchase price does not capture that work.
- Mark the proposed spaces on a site plan or property photo.
- Share existing electrical plans if available.
- Identify areas where construction could interrupt deliveries or customer access.
- State how many spaces you want initially and whether more are planned.
Budget for operation as well as installation
Ask about electricity costs, possible demand charges, network subscriptions, payment features, and maintenance. If the chargers need connectivity, confirm how that will be provided.
For employees sharing stations, establish a clear access and parking policy. Decide who handles a driver’s question or reports a charger fault.
Compare proposals using the same scope
Keep the proposed parking layout and equipment assumptions with each quote. If one proposal changes the layout or charging arrangement, ask for an explanation before comparing totals.
- Is charging equipment included, and which models are specified?
- Who provides plans, permits, inspections, and utility coordination?
- Are trenching and pavement restoration included where needed?
- Who sets up the equipment, explains operation, and provides support?
- Which recurring fees are separate from the installation price?
